All of the material on rigid contact lenses has been revised to incorporate the modern parameters for gas permeable lenses. A new chapter has been introduced which covers the fundamentals of contact lens gas permeability and the oxygen requirements of the cornea. There is also a new chapter on rigid lens flexing which precedes the chapter on toric rigid lenses. There is considerable new material in the chapters on lens care and storage and the refitting of former PMMA wearers. The section on hydrogel contact lenses has been updated to introduce the new lens designs, and to include a major expansion in the area of lens care and storage. The procedures for dealing with some of the more recent problems in lens disinfection are discussed at length. Another chapter includes a complete discussion of the requirements of extended wear and how well the various contact lenses fulfill these requirements.
